return to childrens new testament books
Childrens Book of 2
Corinthians
chapters 1-3
I have written this for children, based solely on the Word of God, but condensed for them... and used Noah Webster's 1828 Dictionary for clarification of some words. My added comments are in italics, and there is a Memory Verse at the end.
Chapter 1
Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, (that means that Paul was chosen by the Lord Jesus who appeared to him on the Damascus road) and Timothy our brother, (in the faith) to the church of God at Corinth.. grace and peace to you from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercy and the God of all comfort; who comforts us in all our (trials and) tribulation, so that we may be able to (be a )comfort them that are in any trouble. . (that means that God has comforted Paul during his times of trial and therefore Paul knows how to comfort those who are also suffering for their faith.)
If we are suffering, or if we are comforted, it is for your salvation. Our hope for you stands firm, knowing that even as you suffer, you will also be comforted. We want you to know about our trouble in Asia, that we had a death sentence upon us, to show us that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God, who raises those who are dead. Who delivered us from death (when we were yet sinners) and does deliver us (as we walk in fellowship with him daily through the leading of the Spirit) and in whom we trust that he will deliver us (on the day of our redemption: the day when the Lord Jesus Christ comes for his own)
You helped us with prayer, and by the gift you gave us that was from many people; please thank them for us. We have joy in this, that our behavior towards you has been in sincerity and by the grace of God.
As God is true, our words to you were not yea and nay (nay means no, or refusal), but we preached to you the Son of God, Jesus Christ; in him was yea. (yea means certainty, consistency, harmony and stability, it is only used in the sacred style) All the promises of God in him are yea, and Amen (let it be established). It was God who anointed us, (set us apart to preach Jesus Christ to the Gentiles) and confirmed us with you in Christ, he also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts.
Memory Verse: 2 Corinthians 1:19 "For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us.....was not yea and nay, but in him was yea.

Chapter 2
I wrote to you (1 Corinthians) with a very heavy heart, not so that you should be filled with sorrow, but so you should know the great love I have for you. But if any have caused you sorrow, it was not a personal offence to me. The punishment you gave to this man was sufficient. Now you should forgive him, and comfort him, and let him know that you love him (in Christ, because he repented)
This is why I write, so I will now if you are obedient in all things. If you forgive, I forgive also, as unto Christ, so that Satan will not get an advantage over us, because we know the things that Satan does. (that means that if the person who was sorry for their sin was not forgiven by the church, either the church would be a bad testimony because of their failure to forgive one who was sorry, or else the person who committed the sin would be so filled with sorrow he will be overcome and vulnerable to the temptations of the evil one.)
Now thanks be to God, who always causes us to have the victory in Christ and allows us to make known everywhere the knowledge of God (the gospel) We are not like those that corrupt the word of God (that means change it from good to bad) but in sincerity, in the sight of God, in Christ we speak.
Memory Verse: 2 Corinthians 2:17 "we are not as many which corrupt the word of God: but in sincerity, in the sight of God, in Christ we speak.

Chapter 3
Do we need letters of acceptance to bring to you or from you? We are not adequate in ourselves that we should think highly of ourselves, but we are adequate because of God who has, not by letter but by the Spirit that gives life, made us able to be ministers of the new testament (that means those that preach the gospel of Christ)
But if that which was done away (the law) was glorious (because it was given by God to Moses) than that which remains (the gospel of Christ) is even more glorious. Therefore, seeing that we have such hope, we speak to you plainly.
The children of Israel (the Jews) were blinded in their minds, until this day they are blind in their hearts, as Moses put a veil over his face so the children of Israel could not look on his face, a veil is even now on the hearts of the Jews.. the veil was done away with in Christ, but when the children of Israel shall turn to the Lord, the veil (of blindness in their hearts) shall be taken away.
The Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (freedom).
Memory Verse: 2 Corinthians 3:17 "Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
