return to childrens new testament books

Childrens Book of 2 Corinthians
chapters 4-6

I have written this for children, based solely on the Word of God, but condensed for them... and used Noah Webster's 1828 Dictionary for clarification of some words. My added comments are in italics, and there is a Memory Verse at the end.

Chapter 4

If our gospel (the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ) is hidden, it is hidden to those who are lost (those who have not received the Lord Jesus as their Saviour). those who do not believe.  We (Paul) do not preach ourselves, but the Lord Jesus Christ.

God, who commanded that the light (the gospel) shine out of darkness (the sin-filled world) has shined in our hearts, and we have been given the knowledge of the glory of God in Jesus Christ.   We have troubles from everywhere but we are not without hope, because we know that he which raised up the Lord Jesus (God the father) will also raise us up (at the resurrection).

We do not faint when troubles come upon us, because though the outward man perish (the body of flesh which is aging day by day) the inward man (the soul and spirit which has been born of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ) is renewed day by day.

We do not look at the things around us, but at the things which are not seen (we look by faith to our future hope of eternal life with the Lord Jesus Christ)..  the things which are seen (the things around us) are temporary but the things which are not seen are eternal (our future hope of eternal life with the Lord Jesus Christ)

Memory Verse: 2 Corinthians 4:16 "....though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day."

Chapter 5

We are confident knowing that, while we are in the body (alive) we are absent from the Lord: (for (now) we walk by faith, not by sight) We would rather be absent from the body, and present with the Lord (to die and go to be with the Lord Jesus)

We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, whether a person has done good or bad. (the judgment seat means that one day we will all, saved and not saved, stand before the Lord Jesus, and he will judge everything that we have done..  the saved will receive rewards for the good works which they have done (through the leading of the Holy Spirit within them), the not saved will be condemned because they have not believed the gospel and have rejected the Lord Jesus.)

If any man is in Christ he is a new creature: old things are passed away, behold, all things have become new. (that means that a person who has received the Lord Jesus as their Saviour will no longer live their life the way they did before, but will begin living a new life guided day by day by the Holy Spirit, which will be with them until they are with the Lord Jesus)

All things are of God, who has reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ (that means that the Lord Jesus died on the cross, and took upon himself the penalty of our sins, so that we who by faith receive him as Saviour, are brought into fellowship with God the Father) and has given to us (Paul) the ministry of reconciliation. (that means that Paul has been given the privilege of preaching the gospel to the Gentiles (all who are not Jewish)

God has made the Lord Jesus to be sin for us (that means that on the cross, the Lord Jesus took upon himself the penalty for the sins of the world) who knew no sin (the Lord Jesus is sinless) so that we through him might be made righteous (when God looks at believers, he sees them as holy through their faith in what the Lord Jesus did for them.)

Memory Verse:  2 Corinthians 5:17 "..if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old thing are passed away, behold, all things have become new."

Chapter 6

As you have received the grace of God (because you have believed the gospel) do not offend in any way. Be patient, be pure (in thought and deed, by the power of God)   Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers (that means that Christians should have no part of sin or ungodly things that the people who are not saved take part in)

Be separate from the (things of the) world and I (God) will receive you, and will be a Father to you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.
