return to childrens new testament books
Childrens Book of 2
Corinthians
chapters 7-9
I have written this for children, based solely on the Word of God, but condensed for them... and used Noah Webster's 1828 Dictionary for clarification of some words. My added comments are in italics..
Note: chapter six left off God's promise to be a father to believers..
Chapter 7
Therefore, having these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthy things of the body and of the spirit (the flesh means things we do that we should not do, and the spirit means things we think upon)
Though I made you sorry with a letter, (Paul's first letter to the church at Corinth, 1 Corinthians) I do not repent (change my mind), because I know that the letter made you repent (of the things that they were doing). Godly sorrow works to deliver you from sin, but the sorrow of the world (which is remorse, being sorry but not bringing a change)...
Though I wrote to you, I didn't write because of the one that had committed a sin, nor for the one who had suffered because of the sin, but so that our care (for you) in the sight of God would be made known to you.

Chapter 8
Brothers, we (Paul) want you to understand the grace of God given to the churches of Macedonia; how in great trials, they were filled with joy. They gave of their own selves to the Lord, and then unto us by the will of God.
And so, as you are outstanding in faith, in speech, in knowledge, and in your love to us, see that you are outstanding in this grace also. (contribute to the work of the Lord)
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich (in his deity, in his being equal with God the Father, in all the fullness of God) yet for you (the people in the world) he became poor (he took upon himself the form of a servant, and was made in the flesh of men.)
Therefore, as you begun before (to give to the work of the Lord), so do it according to your ability. If there is first of all a willingness to do so, it is acceptable according to what a man has, no matter how small it is.
I do not mean that other men will be given to so that you are made poor, but that at this time, you have so much that you can supply their need, and sometime they may have much and you may have need, and so giving is made equal.

Chapter 9 (continuation of teaching on giving)
I say this, he that sows sparingly shall reap sparingly (he that gives little, will receive little (in spiritual blessings for giving) but he which sows bountifully shall reap bountifully (that means that he which gives much will receive much (in spiritual blessings)
Every man should give as he considers in his heart what he should give.. not being unhappy about it, and not because giving is something you think you should do but cheerfully because God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to fill you with everything you need, so that you always have everything sufficient for your needs, and so that you will be able to be helpful to others.
Thanks be unto God for his indescribable gift. (God loved the world so much that he gave his only begotten son, the Lord Jesus Christ, that whoever believes in him has eternal life.)
