Philippians - Chapter 1-2

Welcome, I have written this for children, based solely on the Word of God, but condensed for them... and used Noah Webster's 1828 Dictionary for clarification of some words. My added comments are in italics, and there is a Memory Verse for each chapter.

Chapter 1

Paul and Timothy, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus at Philippi.. may grace and peace be to you from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. I thank my God each time I think of you, and always pray joyfully for you, for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day (that you heard and believed it) until now.  Being sure of this very thing, that he which began a good work in you will carry it on until the day of Jesus Christ (when Jesus comes for all those that believe on him, whether dead or alive).

I pray that your love (of the gospel and of the Lord Jesus Christ) may grow more and more in learning the things of God and judgment (that you can know right from wrong, good from evil), so that you may be sincere (pure in thought and deed) and not causing offence to anyone until the day of Christ. being filled with righteousness (holy in your heart) which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

But I want you to understand that the things that have happened to me (Paul the apostle) happened so that the gospel would reach out to other places.  And so that many fellow believers in the Lord are made more bold to speak the word (the gospel) without being afraid.

Because of my hope, I shall not be ashamed of anything, but that Christ shall be made greater in my body, whether by life or by death.  For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. I do not know which I would choose, because I have a desire to go and be with Christ which is far better, but it is more needful for me to be here for you.

But I am sure that I will stay and continue with you so that you may grow in the joy of faith.  So whether I come and see you, or whether I am away from you, let me hear that you are standing firm in the faith together, not being afraid of those who are against you, which is a sign of your salvation which is of God.  For to you it is given not only to believe on Christ, but also to suffer for his sake.

Chapter 2

Let my joy be fulfilled by being of the same mind, having the same love (for Christ) Do not do anything through quarreling or thinking yourself better than others..let each person value others to be better than themselves.

Be of this mind, as was the Lord Jesus who, when he was in the form of God, (that means that he had the nature of God)  he knew he did not have to hold on to that equality no matter the cost..  But he (Christ) covered the glory of his Deity and, took upon himself the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men (Christ was really and truly God and really and truly man, and took upon himself human nature, although sinless.) And being found as a man, he was humble (modest) and became obedient to death, the death on the cross.

And so God honored him, and gave him a name which is above every name..  That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth.  And every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.

Therefore, since you have always obeyed not only when I am with you, but now that I am away from you, as you live your lives as believers, do so with fear and trembling (that is a holy fear of God) because it is God which works in you to do in you as it pleases him.

Do all things without complaining and arguing, so that you are without blame, the sons of God, so that you shine as lights in the world.  Hold forth the word of life (the gospel) so that I may be filled with joy in the day of Christ.

If I (Paul) am offered on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am filled with uoy, and rejoice with all of you.  And likewise, you joy, and rejoice with me.

I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you shortly, because you know that he has served with me in the gospel.  But I trust in the Lord that also I shall come shortly.

Memory Verse: Philippians 2:10-11 " That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth.  And every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father."
