Children's Book of 1 Corinthians - Chapter13
Paul's beautiful teaching on Charity

I have written this for children, based solely on the Word of God, but condensed for them... and used Noah Webster's 1828 Dictionary for clarification of some words. My added comments are in italics, and there is a Memory Verse at the end.

Note:  The King James Version uses the word "Charity" in this chapter..  according to Noah Webster's 1828 dictionary, charity means 'love, benevolence, good will, and in a theological sense, supreme love to God, and good will to men.  It is love, kindness, affection, tenderness..  it is a very deep word full of meaning in these days when the word "love" is tossed around so easily...   and so I am using the word "charity" here also.

Chapter 13

Even though I might speak with tongues (a gift of the Spirit) and have not charity, I am like the sound of brass, or a tinkling cymbal (that is like a tambourine, Paul is saying even if he speaks with tongues, if he does not do it with charity, it just makes a sound, it doesn't mean anything.)

Even though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge, and even if I have all faith so that I could remove mountains, if I do not have charity, I am nothing.

Even though I give all my goods to feed the poor, and give up my life, if I don't have charity, it is for no reason.

Charity is longsuffering, (patient through trials) it is kind, it does not envy (does not wish it has what another has), it does not lift it self up (does not make itself important), it is not proud.

It does not behave in an indecent way, it does not look out for itself, it does not easily become angry, it thinks no evil.

It does not rejoice in sins, but it rejoices in the truth.

It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. (that means that charity is patient, it is believing, it is hopeful, and it continues until the end.)

Charity never fails, but if there are prophecies, they shall end, if there are tongues they shall stop, if there is knowledge it shall disappear.  For we know some things, and we prophesy some things.  But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall end. (some people think 'that which is perfect' means when the bible was complete, and some people think  'that which is perfect' refers to when the Lord Jesus comes again.)

When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

Now we see through a glass darkly, but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as I am known.  (this verse refers to when we get to heaven, and we see the Lord Jesus face to face, we will know others even as others know us, and we will know all things)

And now continue faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

Memory Verse:  13:13 "And now continue faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity."
