Children's Book of 1 Corinthians - Chapters 5-8
I have written this for children, based solely on the Word of God, but condensed for them... and used Noah Webster's 1828 Dictionary for clarification of some words. In these chapters, the church at Corinth had moral problems, and these chapters are about adult issues, so I have tried to convey the thoughts of the chapters, without being explicit. My added comments are in italics, there are no memory verses for these chapters.
Chapter 5
It is reported that there is a problem among you, something that should not even be named among the Gentiles, and you are puffed up (filled with pride) and you have not mourned, so that he that has done this deed might be taken away from you. I have judged, even as if I was with you, concerning what this person has done.
Your glorying is not good. Don't you know that one bad thing can spread to the whole group? Therefore, put out (of the church) he that has done wrong. Don't keep company with the evildoers of this world. God judges them. So put out this wicked person.
Chapter 6.
If any of you has a problem with another, do you dare to take it to laws of the world and not before the saints (in the church)? Don't you know that the saints will judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, arn't you worthy to judge the smallest matters? Don't you know that we will judge angels? And so if you have something that has to do with the things of this life, let those who are least thought of in the church judge the matter.
I speak to your shame..Is there not a wise man among you? is there not one that is able to judge between his brothers in Christ?
Don't you know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? And you were once one of them, but you are washed (made clean by the blood of Christ) sanctified (set apart) you are made just, (made righteous, holy in heart) in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
God has both raised up the Lord, and will also raise us up by his own power. Don't you know that your bodies are the members (of the body) of Christ? He that is joined to the Lord is one spirit. Don't you know that you are not your own? You are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
Chapter 7
Now, concerning the things that you wrote me about, it is good if a man remains single if he wants to, but otherwise, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. To the unmarried and widows, I say to them that it is good if they continue that way, but if they are not able to, let them marry.
To the married I say, the wife should not leave her husband, but if she does leave, she should remain unmarried, or else come back to her husband. The husband should not put away his wife. If any brother has a wife that does not believe and she is pleased to live with him, he must not put her out. And the woman that has a husband that does not believe, if he is pleased to live with her, let her not leave him. Because the husband who does not believe is sanctified (set apart) by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified (set apart) by the husband, and so your children are holy.
Let every man stay in the same job he was in when he was saved. Are you a servant? don't be concerned about it, but if you are made free, use it. He that is called in the Lord being a servant, is the Lord's freeman: and in the same way, he that is called being a free man, is Christ's servant. You are bought with a price, do not be the servants of men.
I would that you were without the cares of the world. He that is not married cares for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord. But he that is married cares how he might please his wife. In the same way, an unmarried woman cares for the things of the Lord, so she is holy in her body and in her spirit. But a married woman cares how she might please her husband.
A man that gives his daughter in marriage does well, but a man that does not give his daughter does better. The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband lives, but if her husband is dead, she is free to marry whom she will, but only in the Lord.
Chapter 8
Knowledge makes one proud, but love builds another up. If any man think that he knows anything, he doesn't know anything that he ought to know. If any man loves God, the same is known of him. ...an idol is nothing in the world, and there is no other God but one. Even though there are those that are called gods, to us there is only one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we are in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things and we by him.
