Children's Book of Romans - Chapters1-4
I have written this for children, based solely on the Word of God, but condensed for them... and used Noah Webster's 1828 Dictionary for clarification of some words. My added comments are in italics... Memory Verses are at the end of each chapter.
Chapter 1
Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle of God, (by the appearance of the Lord Jesus Christ to Paul on the Damascus Road) concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, declared the Son of God with power... by the resurrection from the dead. To all that are in Rome, beloved of God: grace and peace to you from God our Father. I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, and I always mention you in my prayers. I want to see you very much, and am ready to preach the gospel to you that are in Rome. I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, because it is the power of God to salvation to every one that believes, to the Jew first, and also to all other people (called in the bible Gentiles) The just shall live by faith. (a just person is one that is righteous in God's eyes, one that is holy in his heart because of his faith in God.)
The anger of God is against all men who are ungodly and not holy in their heart, because God has shown His creation, the things about him, even his eternal (eternal has no beginning, and has no end.. it always was, and always will be) power, so that people have no excuse for not believing in God, but when they knew that there is a creator, they did not give God glory, and so their foolish hearts were made dark. When they thought they were wise, they became fools. And knowing the judgment of God, that those that commit sinful things are worthy of death, not only they that do sinful things, but also those that have pleasure in them that do the evil things.. (that means that if you watch someone doing something that is a sin, and you enjoy watching them, you are as guilty of the sin as they are, because you enjoyed it through watching them.)
Memory Verse: Romans 1:17 ".........the just shall live by faith."
Chapter 2
Therefore, you are without an excuse if you judge. Because by how you judge another, you condemn yourself because you do the same things as the person you are judging. But God's judgment is according to truth, against those that commit sins. Do you think that you will escape the judgment of God if you do the same things? He will judge each man according to his deeds. Do you hate the riches of his goodness and patience because you do not know that God's goodness leads you to repentance? (repentance means believing in your heart that you are a sinner, being very sorry for your sins, and turning to the Lord Jesus, asking him to be your Saviour.
Those who patiently continue in doing well, will receive eternal life: but those that do not obey the truth, will receive wrath, (God's righteous anger) but there will be glory, honour, and peace to every man that does good works, (good deeds that God leads Christians to do) to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile because there is no respect of persons with God. (that means that God does not have one person to be more important than another, and so judge them differently)
When the Gentiles, that were not given the law, do the things that the law contains, they show that the law is written in their hearts..
He is not a Jew that is one on the outside (that means that he was born a Jew and follows the law of Moses) but he is a Jew which is one inwardly, because of his heart, and not in the letter (the law given by Moses) who praises not men, but God.
Memory Verse: 2:11 "For there is no respect of persons with God."
Chapter 3.
What advantage does the Jew have? To them God spoke. What if they didn't believe? Let God be true, but every man a liar, so that you are justified in the things you say, and will overcome when you are judged (because you believe and live by the truths of God) Is God unrighteous who takes vengeance (that means when God gives punishment because of disobedience) God forbid! both Jews and all other people are under sin; there is not one righteous person. There are none that understand and there are none that seek after God, there is none that do good, no, not one. They do not know peace, and they have no fear of God.
But now God's righteousness which is by faith of Jesus Christ is to all and upon all them that believe, for there is no difference (between men) For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God; being made righteous freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: who God has given to be His sacrifice to pay the penalty of our sins, and so through faith in the blood of Jesus, a man is made righteous.
Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also the God of the all who are not Jewish? Yes, of all, because it is one God, which shall justify the Jews by faith, and the Gentiles through faith. Does faith make the law useless? God forbid, we make firm the law.
Memory Verse: 3:23 "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."
Chapter 4
What about Abraham? if he were made righteous by his works, he may glory, but not before God. What does the scripture say? Abraham believed God, and so he was declared righteous. To him that works, his reward is not of grace, but because of debt. But to him that doesn't work, but believes, his faith is seen to be righteous. David said "Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute (charge) sin" (because his sins are covered by the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross at Calvary.)
Abraham is father to all that walk in faith, because Abraham believed in hope that God's promises to him were true, and he was strong in faith, and gave glory to God, and he was convinced that what God had promised, he was able to perform, and so Abraham was counted as righteous. It was not for his sake alone, but for us also, if we believe in Him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, who gave his life for our offences (sins) and was raised for our justification (so we could be made righteous).
Memory Verse: 4:8 "Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin."
