Children's Book of Romans - Chapters 13-16
I have written this for children, based solely on the Word of God, but condensed for them... and used Noah Webster's 1828 Dictionary for clarification of some words. My added comments are in italics, and there is a Memory Verse at the end of each chapter.
Chapter 13
Let every soul be subject (be obedient) to the higher powers. There is no power but of God, everyone that is in a position of power is there because God put him there. Whoever resists the power, does not obey the rule of God. Rulers are not to be feared if you do good works, but to be feared by those who do evil. So do that which is good and you will be praised for it. But if you do evil things, be afraid, for he is the minister of God, to bring punishment on him that does evil. Therefore give to all whatever they are due. Owe no man anything but to love one another: for he that loves another has fulfilled the law. Some of the commandments say you shall not kill, you shall not steal, you shall not tell things that are untrue, you shall not covet (that means that you want something that your neighbour has) and there is this saying, you shall love your neighbour as you love yourself.
Now our salvation (the day we see the Lord Jesus) is nearer than when we believed. The night is nearly over, the day is near, so let us throw off the works of darkness (sin things) and let us put on the armour of light (Jesus is the light.. the armour will be explained when we do the book of Ephesians)
Let us walk in honesty, not in fighting or envying others. Put on the Lord Jesus Christ and do not in any way give in to the desire to do things that are sins.
Memory Verse: 13:8 "Owe no man anything, but to love one another....."
Chapter 14
Those that are weak in the faith receive, but don't quarrel with him about things that are not clearly explained. One person believes he can eat all things, but someone else who is weak, only eats vegetables. Don't judge the person, for God has received him.
Who are you to judge another man's servant? God is able to make him stand, and he only stands or falls to his own master, yes he shall be lifted up, for God is able to make him stand.
One man thinks of one day more highly than another. another man thinks of every day in the same way. Let every man make up his own mind. Whether we live, or whether we die, we are the Lord's. It was for this that Christ both died and rose and lived, so that he would be Lord both of the dead and living.
Why do you judge your brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written , As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. (that Jesus Christ is Lord) So every one of us shall give account of himself to God. Therefore, let us not judge one another any more, but instead judge this instead, that no man give any reason for a brother (in Christ) to fall (from the faith)
I (Paul) am persuaded by the Lord Jesus that there is nothing that in itself is unclean, but if anyone thinks that something is unclean, to him it is unclean. But if your brother does not want the food you offer him, don't force it upon him. Don't let the good things you do be spoken of as evil by others.
For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. He that serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God, and approved of men. Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things where we may lift one another up.
Meat does not destroy the word of God because all things are pure indeed, but it is an evil thing for someone to eat when it causes another to be offended. It is good not to eat meat, nor to drink wine, nor to do anything that offends a brother (in Christ), or makes him weak.
Do you have faith? have it to yourself before God. Happy is the man that does not condemn himself with the things that he does.
Memory Verse: 14:11 "As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God."
Chapter 15
We that are strong ought to bear the troubles of the weak and not please ourselves. Let every one of us please his neighbour. For even Christ did not please himself. The things that were written (in the scriptures) were written for our learning, so through patience and comfort of the scriptures, we might have hope. We should with one mind and one mouth glorify God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. So you receive one another, just as Christ received us (when we were saved) to the glory of God.
I (Paul) say that Jesus Christ was a minister to the Jews (called "the circumcision") for the truth of God, to make firm the promises that were made to the fathers: and so the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy, as it is written, ...Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles; and praise him, all you people. and Isaiah said "There shall be a root (descendant) of Jesse and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust. (which is the Lord Jesus Christ)
Now (let) the God of hope fill you with joy and peace in believing, so you may have much hope through the power of the Holy Ghost. I believe that you are full of goodness, and filled with knowledge, and that you are able to discipline one another.
When I take my journey to Spain, I will come to you, but now I go to Jerusalem to minister to the saints. I am sure that, when I come to you, I shall come in the blessing of the gospel of Christ. Now I plead with you brothers, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, pray to God with me so I may come to you with joy by the will of God. Now (let) the God of peace be with you all. Amen.
Memory Verse: 15:7 "So you receive one another, just as Christ received us (when we were saved) to the glory of God"
Chapter 16
I commend to you Phebe our sister, that you receive her in the Lord, and that you assist her... Greet Priscilla and Aquilla who are my helpers in Christ Jesus, who have put their own life at risk for me....salute one another with a holy kiss.
I plead with you brothers, to mark them which cause divisions and offenses in things that are not part of the doctrine you have learned, and avoid them. Because they do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but by good words and nice speeches they deceive the hearts of those that are not strong in the faith. But your obedience has come to all men. Therefore I am glad for you, but I want you to be wise to that which is good. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you all. Amen.
Memory Verse 16:17 "I plead with you brothers, to mark them which cause divisions and offenses apart from the doctrine you have learned, and avoid them."
