Jolly Animal Cookies

Fun animals from cookie dough!  Let your imagination be your guide.  Brown and white dough for different colors on animals.

Ingredients:

3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 cup butter or margarine
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
3 eggs
2 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled
nuts and candied fruit for decoration

Instructions:

Sift or stir together flour, baking powder and salt.  In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter, sugar and eggs.  Gradually stir in flour mixture. Mix by hand to form smooth dough.  Divide dough into 2 portions; mix melted chocolate thoroughly into 1 portion.

To make animals, use cookie cutters, or place small balls of both colors of dough on ungreased baking sheets.  Flatten dough slightly and shape heads, bodies, tails, etc. using each color to form a different body part as you like.  Use nuts and fruits for eyes, feet, feathers, etc.

Space animals about 2 inches apart and bake in 375F oven (190C) for 10 - 12 minutes or until white dough is light golden.  Makes about 30, depending on size.
