The Good Samaritan
Luke 10 30-37

One day the Lord Jesus was teaching that we are to love our neighbors as ourselves, and a certain lawyer asked him who our neighbors are. And so Jesus told him this story:

A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when thieves caught him, and they took his clothing, and wounded him, and left him alone, half dead.

Now just by chance, a certain priest came that way, but when he saw the poor man, he did not help, but passed by him on the other side of the road.

And in the same way, a Levite, when he came to the place where the man was, he came and looked at him, but he also passed him by.

But a certain Samaritan, as he was going on his way, came to where the man was, and when he saw him, he had compassion on him. That means the Samaritan felt very sorry for the man and wanted to help him.

And so he went to the wounded man, and cleaned his wounds and put bandages on them. And then he put the poor man on his own donkey, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

The next day when the Samaritan left, he took out two pennies and gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, "Take care of him, and whatever you spend more, when I come again, I will repay you."

And then Jesus asked the lawyer "Which now of these three do you think was being a neighbor to him that was wounded by the thieves?"

And the lawyer said "He that showed mercy to him". Then Jesus said "Go, and you do the same thing."

And so Jesus was teaching that all men are our neighbors, and we are to show kindness and mercy to whoever we find that is in need.
