There was a man named Saul who threatened and wanted to kill the disciples of the Lord Jesus. And he went to the high priest and asked for letters to take to Damascus, to the synagogues there, that if any followers of Jesus were found, either men or women, they would be tied up and brought to Jerusalem.
And as Saul journeyed to Damascus, suddenly there shone around him a light from heaven! And he fell to the earth, and a voice said to him "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" And Saul said "Who are you Lord?" And the Lord answered him "I am Jesus who you persecute. It is hard for you to fight against me." And Saul trembled with shock and said "Lord, what would you have me do?" And the Lord Jesus said to him "Get up, and go into the city, and it will be told to you what you should do."
And the men which traveled with Saul stood speechless because they heard a voice, but they did not see a man.
And Saul got up and when he opened his eyes he couldn't see anything, and so the people who were with him took him by the hand and brought him into Damascus. And he was there for three days, and he could not see, and he had neither food nor anything to drink.
And there was a man named Ananias and the Lord appeared to him in a vision and told him to go to Saul, because Saul had seen in a vision that a man named Ananias was going to come to him and put his hand on him and that he would be able to see again. Ananias had heard about Saul, and how he persecuted the saints in Jerusalem, and he had heard that Saul had authority in Damascus to bind up all that called upon the name of Jesus. But the Lord told him that Saul was Jesus' chosen vessel to carry Jesus' name to the Gentiles, and that he would suffer many things for Jesus' sake.
And so Ananias obeyed the Lord Jesus and went to the house where Saul was, and put his hands on him and said "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus that appeared to you when you were coming has sent me, that you might receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Ghost. And immediately Saul received his sight and he arose, and was baptised. And after he ate some meat, he was stronger. And he stayed with the disciples in Damascus for a few days and right away he preached Christ in the synagogues, that Jesus is the Son of God.
