One day, a man called Simon (not Simon Peter, the apostle) invited Jesus to his house for dinner. This man was a Pharisee, that is a religious person of the Jews. And so Jesus went, and sat down to eat with him, but a woman of the city, who knew she was a sinner, found out that Jesus was eating at Simon's house, and so she came with a box of ointment.
And she stood at the feet of Jesus, weeping, and then she began to wash his feet with her tears, and wiped his feet with her hair, and kissed his feet, and put the ointment on his feet.
Now when Simon the Pharisee saw this, he thought to himself, "if this man were a prophet, he would have known who this woman is that touches him, for she is a sinner". But the Lord Jesus knew what Simon was saying to himself, and so he said to him "Simon, I have something to say to you. There was a man who knew two men that owed him some money. One owed 500 pennies, and the other owed 50 pennies. But they could not pay and so the man told both of them that they did not have to pay him. So tell me, which man will love him most?" And Simon answered "I suppose he that owed the most money" And Jesus said "That is right."
And then the Lord Jesus turned to the woman and said to Simon "Do you see this woman? When I came into your house, you didn't give me any water for my feet, but she has washed my feet with her tears, and wiped them with her own hair. You gave me no kiss, but this woman has not stopped kissing my feet. You did not put oil on my head, but this woman has put oil on my feet. And so I say to her, your sins, which are many, are forgiven, because she loves me very much. And he said to the woman "Your sins are forgiven. Your faith has saved you, go in peace"
That woman, who came to Jesus weeping and kissing his feet, now left happy and with peace in her heart, because the Lord Jesus had forgiven her.....
Memory Verse: Luke 7:50 "....Thy faith has saved thee, go in peace."
