Judas Iscariot was one of the twelve apostles chosen by the Lord Jesus at the beginning of his ministry.. but the Lord Jesus, knowing everything, knew that Judas would be the one to betray him so that the Lord Jesus would be put to death on the cross, fulfilling the purpose for which he came to earth, to die for the sins of the world, and be resurrected from the dead, so that we may have a way to heaven through the Lord Jesus, if we receive him as our Saviour from our sins.
One day, when Jesus was in the town of Bethany, while they were having supper, Mary, the sister of Martha, came and poured some very costly ointment onto the Lord Jesus, on his head, and on his feet. Judas said "Why wasn't this ointment sold...and the money given to the poor?" He said this not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and carried everything that was put in the bag.. and after that Judas went to the chief priests and said to them "What will you give me, and I will deliver him to you? And they promised Judas they would give him thirty pieces of silver. And from that time on, Judas looked for the opportunity to betray Jesus..
Now it came time for the Passover, and as the Lord Jesus and his disciples were gathered together celebrating the Passover feast, Jesus said "Truly I say to you that one of you will betray me.." All the disciples were very sorry, and one by one they all said "Lord, is it I?" And Jesus answered them and said "He that dips his hand with me in the dish, this is the one who will betray me....woe to that man who betrays Son of Man! it would be good for that man if he had not been born.."
Then Judas said "Master, is it I?" and Jesus said to him "You have said" and after that Jesus said "That which you do, do quickly" and Judas went immediately out, and it was night..
After awhile, Jesus went to the garden of Gethsemane with his disciples to pray, and Judas also, which betrayed Jesus, knew the place because Jesus had often taken the disciples there. And Judas, who had received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, came with lanterns and torches and weapons, and Judas went ahead of them and came near to Jesus to kiss him. But Jesus said "Judas, do you betray the Son of man with a kiss?"
And Jesus was arrested and taken to trial.
In the morning Judas, when he saw that Jesus had been condemned to death, was very sorry, and brought the thirty pieces of silver back to the chief priests saying "I have sinned because I have betrayed the innocent blood.." (the Lord Jesus) but they said to him "What is that to us?" and so Judas threw the pieces of silver in the temple, and went out and went and hanged himself.
And the thirty pieces of silver were used to buy a field to bury strangers in, and that field is called "the field of blood" until this day.
Memory Verse: Luke 22:48 "Jesus said to him "Judas, do you betray the Son of man with a kiss?"
