Noah's Ark - The Great Flood
Genesis 6:5- Genesis 8

A very long time ago, God saw that men had become very wicked, and God was very sad. And so the LORD said, "I will destroy man who I created, and beast, and things that creep, and birds."

But Noah was faithful to God, and so one day God told Noah that because the earth was filled with violence, he was going to destroy the earth and everything that lived there.

And so God told Noah to make a boat called an Ark. It was to be made of special wood called gopher wood, it would have rooms, and the wood was to be covered inside and outside with pitch. Pitch is like the sticky stuff that you find on some trees. And God told Noah the Ark was to be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high. It would have a window in the top, and a door in the side, and it would have three decks, lower, second and third.

And then God told Noah that he would bring a flood of water upon the earth to destroy every living thing.

But God made a promise to Noah called a covenant. He promised that Noah, his wife, his sons and their wives would go into the ark, and that Noah should bring two of every creature that lived into the ark to keep them alive. They would be male and female. And Noah was to gather food and take it into the ark, for the animals and for Noah and his family.

And so Noah did everything that God told him to do.

Chapter 7ng

And so Noah and his wife, and his sons, and their wives all went into the ark. And two by two the animals came and went into the ark, and the LORD shut the door. And after 7 days, it began to rain. And it rained for forty days and forty nights. It had never rained before that time, and never will rain like that again. And the water grew deeper and deeper, and soon the ark was floating on top of the water All the high hills were covered, and the water grew deeper, and the mountains were covered. And every living thing died that was not on the ark. And the water was on the earth 150 days.

Chapter 8

And God remembered Noah, and the living things in the ark, and God made a wind. The rain stopped, and the level of the water went down, and after 150 days the water was low enough for the ark to rest on a mountain called Ararat. This was on the 17th day of the 7th month. And the waters continued to go down until the 10th month, and on the first day of that month, the tops of the mountains were seen. And it came to pass that at the end of another 40 days, Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made.

And he sent out a raven, that is like a big crow, and it went back and forth until the water was dried up from the earth. Also Noah sent forth a dove to see if the water was gone from the ground; but the dove found no place to rest her feet, and she returned to him into the ark, because the water was still on the face of the earth. And he waited 7 more days; and sent the dove out again, and this time she did not come back.

So the water was dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked and saw that the ground was dry.

And God spoke to Noah and said "Go from the ark, you and your wife, and your sons, and their wives. Bring with you all the animals that are with you so that they may go and breed and increase in number in the earth. So Noah came out, and his sons, and their wives, and Noah's wife. And all the animals also came out of the ark.

And Noah built an altar to the LORD, and made offerings on the altar. And the LORD smelled a sweet smell, and he said in his heart I will not curse the ground again for man's sake, neither will I kill every living thing again. While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night shall not end.

And God made a covenant. He said never again would waters become a flood to destroy the earth. For a sign, he made a rainbow in the clouds, and God promised to look upon it and remember the covenant between God and every living creature.
